About the Imposter Party Game
The Imposter Party Game (also known as "Who is the Spy" or the viral TikTok imposter challenge) is a social deduction word game you can play with 3 to 10 friends using a single phone. No downloads, no accounts, no setup - just open this page and start playing in under a minute.
Here is how it works: at the start of each round, every player secretly receives the same word - except one player, the imposter, who receives a slightly different but related word. For example, everyone might get Apple while the imposter gets Pear. Players then take turns giving one short clue about their word, without saying the word itself. The imposter must listen carefully and improvise clues to avoid detection, while everyone else tries to spot the clue that doesn't quite fit.
After everyone has spoken, the group discusses and votes on who they think the imposter is. If the majority catches the imposter, the civilians win. If the imposter survives the vote or correctly guesses the civilian word, the imposter wins the round.
The game became a massive TikTok trend in 2025 because it creates hilarious moments: a player confidently describing their word while everyone else realizes the clues don't add up. It works for family gatherings, classroom icebreakers, road trips, and parties - anyone who can describe a word can play, and rounds take only five minutes.
How to Play
- Set up: Choose the number of players (3-10) and a word category, then press Start.
- Pass and reveal: Pass the phone around. Each player privately taps to see their secret word, then hides it and passes the phone on.
- Give clues: Starting with Player 1, each person says one short clue about their word out loud. Don't say the word itself!
- Discuss: After a round of clues, talk it out. Whose clue sounded suspicious? Who hesitated?
- Vote: Point at your suspect on the count of three. The player with the most votes is eliminated - tap the button above to reveal whether you caught the imposter.
Tips for civilians: Give clues that are specific enough to prove you know the word, but vague enough that the imposter can't guess it. Tips for the imposter: Speak late if you can, mirror the group's vibe, and keep your clue generic.
